I am a trained actor and theatre-maker, and have done a dissertation on the city of Auckland at Auckland University. Born near London to an English father and New Zealander mother, I came out to Auckland for a year eight years ago and never went home. I started guiding visitors around Auckland city in 2014 and love being part of Auckland Free Walking Tours.
I joined Auckland Free Walking Tours this summer as an enthusiastic lover of our natural world and New Zealand sociology. Particularly interested in cinema, surfing and art - I’m a passionate advocate for environmentalism and the creative industries.
Julie is an actor, writer, and storyteller. She has a passion for vegan food, cats, sunshine, and cricket. Sharing stories of Auckland with you always puts a big smile on her face.
After training in psychology, art and design, I have crafted a career in exhibition development, public programmes and tour guiding, including work at Te Papa, Auckland Museum and Auckland Art Gallery. Most of all I love presenting this beautiful country to the world, through stories, exhibitions, and creative projects. With Auckland Free Walking Tours I also get to make global connections with hundreds of adventurous travellers, all different but with a common interest in learning from each other as we meander the streets of Auckland.
I am former TV journalist and as well as showing walkers some of the hidden corners of Auckland with a very colourful history, I love to bring the group right up to date with the important debates happening around immigration, multiculturalism and The Treaty of Waitangi. I love the outdoors and have plenty of tips to share on great beaches and walks and if you want to know where to get a good coffee I have all the best recommendations.
I’m a born and bred Aucklander who’s fondness for my own city came from travelling as far and as wide as I could. I know Auckland can be a little unfriendly (and humdrum) without an insiders eye so I absolutely love telling our city’s stories and showing visitors and holidays around some of our backstreets. Eu falo português também e gostaria mostrar minha cidade pra você!
As a co-founder of Auckland Free Walking Tours and a native Aucklander I feel privileged to share our stories and help bring to life the very rich and entertaining tapestry that unfolds on our tours.
