Frequently Asked Questions
What days do you walk?
We walk everyday! Rain or shine our walks depart at 10am and 2pm daily from the Queens Wharf Village.
Where does the walk leave from?
Our walk leaves from the entrance to the Queens Wharf Village (89 Quay Street). Your guide will be waiting just inside the big red fence when you enter the area from Quay Street. Look out for your Auckland Free Walking Tour guide, holding a bright blue Auckland Free Walking Tours umbrella.
PLEASE NOTE: There is a lot of construction as you enter Queens Wharf so please look for your guide holding a big blue umbrella at the entrance to the Queens Wharf Village.
When does the start?
Our walk departs the meeting spot promptly at 10am and 2pm. Arrive a few minutes before the departure time to ensure you leave enough time to locate your friendly guide.
How long is the walk?
Our walk runs between 2.5 and 3 hours depending on the size of the group, including a quick break for a cup of coffee or a bite to eat.
Do I need to book?
Bookings aren’t necessary, but feel free to book now if you want to secure a spot on our walk.
Comfortable shoes, a bottle of water (there’ll be opportunities to fill up on the way), and sunscreen.
What do I need to bring?
Can I rent a locker for my luggage?
Yes, Auckland Transport offers e-lockers that you can rent per hour. The e-lockers are located right next to our starting location and accept debit and credit cards. Please talk to your guide and they can help you locate the lockers.
Do you offer private walks?
Yes, we can do private tours. Please contact us directly for more information on private, corporate or large group tours.
Why are you free?
We really, truly are a social enterprise, which means we really, truly do this because we’re just that passionate about showing visitors our weird and wonderful city. That is what inspired the creation of AFWT, and that is what our motivation will always be. We encourage all our happy customers to offer their guide a ‘koha’ (gift, donation, contribution) at the end of the walk.
